ONLINE FACULTY MENTOR PROGRAM (OFMP) PROJECT 

This project was assigned to me to research, design, and develop a structured approach for delivering guidance and strategies that will improve faculty competency in online courses.  The final delivery of this project consisted of a guidebook for faculty mentors, a guidebook for faculty mentees, and a prototyped website.  The project was successfully completed and been moved on to the operations team for deployment.

ONLINE TEACHING CERTIFICATION (OTC) 

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) has developed an opportunity for Central Piedmont faculty to become certified to teach online, earn credentials, and improve online teaching skills.  The OTC program was created to offer faculty guidance, information and resources in online pedagogy, LMS management, student engagement, and more.

 

Below is a breakdown of the modules I researched, designed, and created for this certification project.

OTC | Best Practices for Communication in Online Classes

 

Module Overview

Strong communication is the cornerstone of creating an engaging and successful online classroom. Learn the different categories of communication and best practices for fostering effective communication in your online courses. Part of the Prime 30 and Communication Learning Tracks.

 

 

The Project and Constraints

This project was assigned to me to research, design, and develop a learning module that was to be a part of the CPCC’s Online Teaching Certification (OTC) program for best practices for communication in an online class.

 

This project was required to follow the Serenity template and the built-in text-to-speech in order to remain consistent with the numerous modules associated with this certification module series.  However, I was able to modify images and select color schemes (e.g. gray scale) to add a unique feel as compared to other modules being developed.

OTC | Student Engagement in Online Classes

 

Module Overview

It is important to promote student engagement in all learning environments, including online. A student’s sense of learning community and instructor presence are connected. Learn strategies regarding how to promote engagement through three types of presence in your online courses. Part of the Prime 30 Learning Track.

This project was assigned to me to research, design, and develop a learning module that was to be a part of the CPCC’s Online Teaching Certification (OTC) program for student engagement in an online course.

OTC | Copyright Guidelines

 

Module Overview

Learn the important aspects of Copyright and Fair Use with this search and find experience through our Central Piedmont Library Services’ Copyright Guidelines Website. You will learn about various copyright rules and regulations, identify the four factors of Fair Use, and identify how copyright and Fair Use rules affect your use of materials in various media. Part of the Prime 30 Learning Track.

 

 

The Project and Constraints

This project was assigned to me to design and develop a learning module that was to be a part of the CPCC’s Online Teaching Certification (OTC) program for copyright and fair use guidelines in an online course.

 

This project was requested to be a search and find style assessment of copyright and fair use guidelines in online classes through the use of CPCC’s library website.  I did not have to follow the typical Serenity template, but the color scheme needed to remain similar.

Assessment Module Overview

Blended learning, such as that found in hybrid courses, is all about the students: combining instruction with digital resources to help increase student achievement and engagement. This course presents ways you can incorporate digital content into your hybrid course in order to enhance student engagement. Part of the Enrich 15 Learning Track.

OTC | Core Strategies for Teaching Higher Ed

 

Assessment Module Overview

This module walks higher ed instructors through strategies for successfully engaging and teaching college students. It covers increasing students' critical thinking skills, teaching with technology, introducing outside resources, and maintaining academic rigor. Outside the classroom, he'll show professors how to stay current, adapt to the evolving academic landscape, and collaborate with peers for career success. Part of the Enrich 15 Learning Track.

OTC | Instructional Design for Adult Learners

 

Assessment Module Overview

Adult learners have specific needs that have to be considered during the instructional design process. This course explores the best practices and techniques that will help instructors teach adult learners. Explore the theory behind adult learning, discover techniques to increase active (vs. passive) learning, and see how to identify and surmount barriers to learning. Part of the Enrich 15 Learning Track.

Online Faculty Readiness Assessment (OFRA)

Assessment Module Overview

This is a basic assessment for faculty who are considering teaching online courses.  It is composed of six different areas of assessment: technological skills, LMS experience, course design, communication, and pedagogy, and time management.

 

 

The Project and Constraints

This project was assigned to me to research, design, and develop an assessment module that is for faculty new to teaching online courses.  This assessment is an optional pre-assessment for faculty before continuing to the Online Teaching Certification modules.

 

The Serenity template was requested to be used in order to remain consistent with the numerous modules associated with this certification module series.
